Karyotyping
It’s our pleasure to announce the presence of Chromosomal study Karyotyping. The branch of genetics which correlates chromosome structure with hereditary and variation. Genetic information is contained
in the DNA of chromosomes as a linear sequence of bases (A,T,C,G).
Total No. of bases :- 6 Billion
Chromosome :- 50 to 250 million bases
Gene :- The DNA sequence for a single trait
These range in size from a few thousand bases up to 2 million bases.
Each chromosome contains a few thousand genes .
Definition:
A karyotype is an individual's collection of chromosomes.
Karyotyping is a laboratory technique that produces an image of an individual's chromosomes.
Uses:
The karyotype is used to look for abnormal numbers or structures of chromosomes.
Karyotyping is able to detect polyploidy, aneuploidy, translocations, inversions, rings, and copy number changes in the size range of 4–6 mb.
